Wedding Cupcake Trees, Alternative to Traditional Wedding Cakes?
There was a time in wedding planning history when you didn't dare have anything but the traditional wedding cake, and there was very little variation on what you ordered. The cake was frosted with butter-cream, there was no such thing as fondant, and the decorations were royal frosting flowers to match the colors of your wedding theme. Cake tops varied little also, it was a traditional bride and groom either in a dancing pose or just standing arm in arm. Today the trend for wedding cakes is a cake covered with fondant and intricate frosting decorations and/or fresh or silk flowers. Traditional cake tops are falling out of favor, white fresh flowers, a bow, or glass or acrylic initials stand proudly on top. Wedding cakes have also evolved to include "wedding cupcake trees". A skilled baker and cake decorator can craft wedding cupcakes to be every bit as elegant and intricate as a full traditional wedding cake. There are pros and cons of each, for instance wedding cakes are more expensive but serve larger amounts of guests. Wedding cupcake trees hold less cupcakes which are great for smaller receptions and fewer guests, they are also cheaper than a full cake. Obviously the cupcake trees are easier to serve as guests only have to take one, where as a wedding cake must be sliced and served. Cupcake trees can also accommodate a bride and grooms favorite donut, cookie, or even packaged snacks. They are perfect for small or garden casual receptions. The very top tier can be a small cake so that the tradition of cake cutting by the couple can still be observed. With cupcake trees also, you can have a larger variation of cake flavors and fillings to suit every one's taste. Brides and grooms should shop around, visit a couple different bakeries and cake shops, and taste test before they place their order. Whichever you pick for your wedding, it will be special, and unique to you. So wedding cupcake trees or traditional wedding cakes? Which one did you choose for your wedding? Feel free to share your experience. |
